Jenny Minor
Senior Manager
Education/Certification
I attended the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign and graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accountancy. I am a licensed CPA in both Illinois and Michigan.
What is your area of specialty – how do you best help your clients?
I help my clients implement tax planning strategies and prepare/review tax returns for closely-held companies. I specialize in providing tax advice in a variety of areas within accounting methods/book-tax differences. I keep my clients updated on tax developments that are relevant to them. I provide advice based on my extensive experience working with companies in a variety of industries, including, but not limited to manufacturing, distribution, retail, agriculture, food products/service, software development, pharmaceutical, automotive, and service providers.
How do you like to give back to the community?
Before joining Hungerford, I was working in Chicago and traveling back and forth to Michigan. Therefore, I did not have a lot of opportunity to get involved in the West Michigan community which is one of the reasons I joined Hungerford. Their involvement with so many non-profit organizations and the many networking events they host/attend is impressive, and I really look forward to building a network in the community and volunteering as much as I can to give back.
What are your superpowers – something you’re good at that others should know about?
I am great at building relationships with people, internally and with clients, by listening, finding common ground, and being empathetic. I am detail oriented, which helps with strategic problem solving as well.
Accomplishment you’re proud of?
Professionally, I am proud of becoming a CPA and building my career in public accounting for over 24 years mainly because of how challenging it can be at times. But I really thrive in the environment, in effectively leading teams, and in working with a variety of clients.
Personally, I am proud that I am very independent (thank you to my parents!) and I have built a great life in West Michigan with my husband and stepson who added to the blessings in my life.
Tell us about your life outside of work (family/pets/sports/activities/interests/hobbies)
I have been married to my husband (who I first met when I was 10) for 7 years and was lucky enough to also gain a great son in that relationship. My stepson is in college at Grand Valley State University, so it is nice that he is still close to home. We have a chocolate lab that we just got late last year, so her puppy stage has been keeping us busy!
In my spare time, I like to hike, camp, bike, fish, kayak, and go boating on inland lakes/rivers. I also love to watch sports…NFL, MLB and golf are my favorites. I enjoy going out to eat with my husband and friends or just staying in and playing cards as well.
I also spend as much time as I can with my parents, sister & her husband and my two nieces. Being an aunt is so much fun!
